Central African Republic

Flora and Fauna

The Central African Republic has remarkable biodiversity, with approximately 3,600 plant species, 663 bird species, 209 mammals, 187 reptiles, and 29 amphibians. Forest elephants, western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and rhinos roam the country’s national parks and protected areas. More than 700 bird species occur here, including the grey parrot, shoebill, and yellow-fronted canary. The baobab tree (Adansonia digitata), which appears on the country's coat of arms, is a vital part of the landscape. Its unique ability to store water in its massive trunk allows it to thrive in dry conditions and makes it a symbol of resilience and survival.

National Flora and Fauna
