Djibouti is home to the Day Forest National Park, a lush oasis that supports a variety of plant and animal species in an otherwise arid region.

Flora and Fauna

Djibouti is home to a rich variety of plant and animal life. The country supports approximately 820 plant species, which thrive in its diverse ecosystems, particularly in areas with more rainfall, like the Day Forest.

Djibouti’s wildlife is just as diverse. It is home to 66 mammal species, including gazelles and the Djibouti spiny-tailed lizard, which is unique to the region. The country’s birdlife is also abundant, with around 360 species, such as flamingos and kestrels. In addition, Djibouti is home to 40 species of reptiles and 455 species of fish, particularly in its marine and coastal ecosystems.

National Flora and Fauna

  • The Nile crocodile, (Crocodylus niloticus) is the national animal.
  • The Peregrine falcon, (Falco peregrinus) is the national bird.
